Indian Teacher, Mr.Ranjitsinh Disale, won the ‘Global Teacher Prize 2020’ after competing with 12,000 teachers across the globe

The Global Teacher Prize was set up to recognise one exceptional teacher who has made an outstanding contribution to the profession as well as to bring light on the important role teachers play in society.

Ranjitsinh Disale teaching at Zilla Parishad Primary School, , Solapur, Maharashtra, India, has been named the winner of the Global Teacher Prize 2020, in partnership with UNESCO.The top 10 finalists came from counties like South Africa, USA, Italy, UK, Vietnam, Malaysia and Nigeria. Mr Disale was selected from over 12,000 nominations and applications from over 140 countries around the world. He has worked extraordinarily to empower girls and promote education.

His journey began in the year 2009, when he walked into the school which had a rundown building that had a cattle shed on one side and a storeroom on the other.But today, the school is known to the world, thanks to the efforts of Ranjitsinh who transformed their educational system through technology.

Ranjitsinh was in the limelight in 2016 when he started a QR code system in school textbooks that was replicated across the state and nation.The technology helped students access video lectures, audio poems and assignments. In 2017, the state government announced to have QR-coded textbooks for all classes. The following year, the central government announced a plan to replicate the model. In 2018, he was awarded the Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert by Microsoft itself. He was also recognised for his innovation by the Government of India by awarding him with the National Innovation Foundation’s Innovator of the Year.
